ABOUT RAFFHAAR

Every time I step out of the shower, I meticulously comb my hair. Neat and boring.

About 15 years ago, I started pulling hairs from my hairbrush and stashed them in a drawer of a little cabinet.

The first time my wife found it, she almost freaked out.

THE ORIGIN

But now, they come in handy for creating the RAFFHAAR family.

Long ago, when animals still spoke, my godchild was bored out of his mind during a weekend stay with us. I believe it was around 2012, and he must have been about eight years old at the time. To entertain him, I decided to craft a small wooden puppet. I used a wine bottle cap for his hat, and my godchild named him Lindemans, after the wine.

Soon after, we started creating a little Lindemans family. Lindewoman came into the picture, her hair made from plumber’s hemp. But I wasn’t satisfied with it.

The Lindemans family quickly expanded with Boskoe (Forest Cow) and a fantastical elephant. This elephant needed wild fur, and that’s when the hair came into play. The elephant was soon baptized as RAFFHAAR, a name chosen by my godchild’s mother. Kudos to her!

It took a while before I had time to dive back into the creative process. Not until the summer of ‘22 did I return, with the birth of MONGHAAR. This was my first experiment with polymer clay, and I was instantly hooked.

From that moment, the RAFFHAAR family kept growing. Some of them were sold, while others I gifted to people who mean a lot to me. Letting go of a RAFFHAAR is always tough, as I can no longer look at my creation.

But still, more and more creatures are finding their way into the RAFFHAAR family, and I hope many more will follow.
